The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) has announced the appointment of Dr. Vicki A. Wise as the acting president of the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) for a year-long stint. Wise, a well-respected educator and administrator, will take over the helm of the college on July 1st, succeeding Dr. Michael Richards who will be retiring after serving as CSN’s president since 2017.
Dr. Wise has a long history of academic and administrative experience, having served as the president of Southern Arkansas University Main Campus from 2015 to 2019. Prior to that, she was the provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Central Arkansas. Wise has also held several other leadership roles at various institutions, including dean of arts and sciences at the University of West Alabama and professor of English at the University of Arkansas.
As the acting president of CSN, Wise will be responsible for overseeing the college’s academic programs, budget, and facilities, as well as providing strategic leadership to the college’s 30,000 students, faculty, and staff. Wise is committed to building on the college’s strong reputation for serving the Southern Nevada community, particularly in the areas of workforce development, economic growth, and community engagement.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me to join the CSN community and work with the students, faculty, and staff to advance the college’s mission and goals,” Wise said in a statement. “I am committed to promoting student success, accessibility, and inclusivity, and to building partnerships that benefit the community and the region.”
NSHE Chancellor Dr. Melody Rose welcomed Wise to the CSN community, stating, “We are thrilled to have Dr. Wise join our team as acting president of CSN. Her extensive experience in higher education administration, combined with her commitment to student success and community engagement, make her an ideal candidate to lead the college during this critical period.”
Wise’s appointment is effective July 1st, and her tenure will continue until June 30, 2024.
