Rome, GA – Shorter College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffery W. Norfleet II as the Interim President of the institution. Dr. Norfleet, a highly respected and experienced educator, will assume the role effective July 1, 2023.
Dr. Norfleet comes to Shorter College with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in higher education. With over 25 years of experience in academic leadership, he has served as a professor, department chair, and provost at several institutions, including Louisiana State University and Georgia College & State University. His most recent role was as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Georgia College & State University, where he oversaw a range of academic programs, including undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as faculty development and research initiatives.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Norfleet to Shorter College as our Interim President,” said Dr. John McCall, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “His extensive experience in higher education, combined with his commitment to academic excellence, make him an ideal fit for this role. We are confident that he will provide leadership and guidance as we navigate the next chapter in our institution’s history.”
Dr. Norfleet earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Shorter College, his Master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Georgia, and his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Georgia. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College Personnel Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.
“I am honored to serve as Interim President of Shorter College and am committed to working with the faculty, staff, and students to build upon the institution’s rich history and tradition of excellence,” said Dr. Norfleet. “I am excited to bring my expertise and passion for higher education to this new role and look forward to the opportunity to make a positive impact on the campus community.”
Dr. Norfleet and his wife, Lori, have two children, Emily and Jacob, and are excited to be returning to the Rome area where they have many fond memories of their time at Shorter College.
