Bates College is pleased to announce the election of three new members to its Board of Trustees<\/a>, effective July 1, 2024. The new trustees bring a diverse range of experiences and expertise to the College, reflecting the Board’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.<\/p>\n The three new members are:<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Maria Avila, a renowned expert in education and community development, who is currently the Director of the Community Development Corps at the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Avila is a long-time advocate for access and equity in education, and has worked tirelessly to promote greater diversity and inclusivity in higher education<\/a>.<\/p>\n Mr. Roham Gharehbaghi, a successful entrepreneur and business leader, who is the Founder and CEO of the innovation firm, Catalyst Technologies. Gharehbaghi is a graduate of Bates College, Class of 1996, and has served on the College’s Alumni Council and played a key role in the development of the College’s strategic plan.<\/p>\n Dr. Jennifer A. Lewis, a distinguished professor and scientist, who is currently the Director of the Materials Science and Engineering Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Lewis is a leading expert in the field of materials science, and has made significant contributions to the development of new materials and technologies.<\/p>\n
