Misconception About Direct Instruction

Recently, the term direct instruction has been considered a negative thing. Unfortunately, the term is commonly thought of as the traditional teaching style, where a student sits quietly while the lecturer delivers the lecture. It is considered outdated by some educators because it doesn’t focus on the learning process

The negative image of direct instruction is due to the limited definition of the term. Every teacher uses direct instruction at some point in their class, like offering courses, providing lessons, giving explanations, etc. 

The negative side of direct instruction rises when teachers rely solely on direct instructions. When they fail to use other teaching techniques, students may not learn as extensively as they could have.
