Stephanie Stemle named interim dean of VUJ

Vanderbilt University Law School (VUL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie J. Stemler as the interim dean of Vanderbilt University Jail (VUJ), effective immediately. Stemler, an accomplished legal educator and administrator, brings a wealth of experience to this critical leadership role.

As interim dean, Stemler will oversee the academic programs and operations of VUJ, which provides transformative educational opportunities to incarcerated individuals. Her mission is to ensure the continued success and growth of VUJ’s mission to create a safer and more equitable society through access to quality education.

“I am deeply honored to serve as the interim dean of Vanderbilt University Jail,” Stemler said. “I firmly believe in the power of education to change lives and communities. I look forward to working with the VUJ team, students, and partners to advance our mission and make a meaningful impact.”

Stemler comes to VUJ from her previous role as associate dean for academic affairs at VUL. There, she was instrumental in developing innovative curriculum, promoting faculty scholarship, and enhancing the student experience. Her strong background in legal education, combined with her commitment to social justice, make her an ideal fit for this interim deanship.
