A piece of home’: Red Lake Nation College opens in downtown Minneapolis

Located in the heart of Minneapolis, the new RLNC campus offers a sanctuary for Native American students who seek to connect with their heritage while pursuing academic success. The urban campus serves as a bridge between the rural roots of the Red Lake Nation and the bustling life of Minneapolis, creating a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

RLNC President Dan King stated, “This new campus is more than just a building; it is a piece of home for our tribal members who live in the city. It allows them to pursue their educational goals without disconnecting from their cultural identity.”

The downtown campus provides an array of programs that cater to both traditional and contemporary fields of study. Courses are designed to include Indigenous perspectives, ensuring that students receive a holistic education that honors their background while equipping them with the skills needed in today’s job market.

Apart from academic pursuits, the campus also serves as a cultural hub. It hosts various events and activities aimed at fostering community engagement and preserving tribal traditions. Students have access to resources such as language classes, cultural workshops, and support services tailored to their unique needs.

The opening ceremony was attended by tribal leaders, community members, and local officials who celebrated this momentous occasion with traditional dances, songs, and blessings. The event highlighted the importance of education as a tool for empowerment and community building.

Red Lake Nation College’s expansion into downtown Minneapolis is not just about geographic growth; it signifies a deep commitment to providing educational opportunities that are inclusive and resonate with the lived experiences of Native American students. As RLNC continues to develop its urban presence, it remains dedicated to nurturing future leaders who will contribute positively both within their communities and beyond.

This new chapter for RLNC is one filled with promise—a promise to uphold the values of the Red Lake Nation while embracing innovation in education.
